This weekend, I didn’t go anywhere around Tokyo because of the Super Typhoon Hagibis.
On Saturday night, everyone was watching the TV about the reports about Typhoon for a long time. I saw many countryside areas around Tokyo were devastated. The roof of some houses was blown away by the wind, the flood was raging in the city, people escaped from their home to the safe places.
My Japanese friends on Facebook showed the notice of evacuation from the local government. My Japanese teacher told us that she stayed in a primary school gymnasium for a whole night. My language partner told me the city (Chiba) she lived sustained heavy losses.
At that time, I was feel very sad and surprised by this tribble Typhoon.

From the news, I knew some people lost their lives in this disaster, but I was shocked by the efficient action of the government. I think that is the thing we need to learn from this disaster.
A few days before the typhoon, the Japanese government started to issue disaster prevention issues. That means people need to store the food. The news report had the English translation to foreigners living in Japan. People who lived near the river were evacuated to school’s gymnasiums. No violence happened during the Typhoon, everything is in order. I think that’s how Japanese people can survive in this country with so many natural disaster.
I still remembered that we learnt how to survive in all kinds of disasters at the beginning of this semester. I felt that Japan attaches great importance to it. I think I not only learned new knowledge in Japan, but also learned Japanese courage and calm in the face of disaster.
